THANKS FROM THE NORTH MODESTO KIWANIS CLUB
We, the members of the North Modesto Kiwanis Club, extend our thanks to everyone who helped make this year’s American Graffiti parade and Festival the best ever. This was our 17th year. Our Friday night parade had almost 1,000 vehicles participate. Many businesses along the parade route held their own parties. It was wonderful. The Saturday/Sunday car show and festival was held for the first time at Modesto Municipal Golf Course. We hope it becomes our permanent home. We enjoyed being at the Modesto Junior College for the past 16 years. It was a great venue and host. The campus, however, is expanding. One of the fields we used for our show will be occupied by a new building We had to find a new home.
The parade is free to the public, but it is very expensive to produce. The costs include portable toilets, signage, barricades, reader boards and clean up. We are willing to absorb this cost because we consider this to be an important service to our community. For many years our fee to enter our festival/car show has been $7.00 per adult. This year we raised it to $10.00 per person. Children 12 and under are free. The new ticket price was well received; we heard very few comments at the gates about the new price. We thank you for understanding the need for the increase.
Our car owners pay us $40.00 to enter their cars/trucks in our event. Thankfully, they are happy to do so because they understand that this is a 100% charitable event put on by volunteers.
This show is put on entirely by our 95 member Kiwanis Club and many, many volunteers. No one is paid to do it. Our club contributes to about 55 groups and organizations throughout the year. Every dollar we can save by using our volunteers and our generous sponsors, the more we can return to the community. No member or volunteer profits from this show. On the contrary, they put in hundreds of hours to produce the parade and car show/festival and often times pay for materials out of their own pocket.
We are extremely proud and grateful that our three-day event has been so well received and supported by people from throughout the county and beyond. We also extend our “Thank you” to the neighbors of the golf course who put up with the thousands of people who attended our show. We had 1,245 vehicles entered from five states and 123 cities! In addition to the show cars from years 1979 and earlier, we had over 100 food and non-food vendors. There were also plenty of activities for the kids to enjoy.
Our 18th annual Modesto American Graffiti Car Show and Festival will be held June 10-12, 2016. We hope to see you there.
